Winter in the Ötztal valley
Winter in the Ötztal valley is multifaceted and exciting. Umhausen is located in the middle of the valley and therefore an ideal starting point for any winter activities during your stay.
Cross–Country Skiing
Thanks to the altitude of 1,550 m, at Niederthai snow is guaranteed which also offers the best conditions for cross-country skiing. Umhausen and Niederthai also provide trails for classical cross-country skiing or skating at all levels of difficulty. Furthermore, there are also special night trails which can be used in the evening. The cross-country ski trails have been awarded with the "Tiroler Loipengütesiegel". The cross-country ski trail in Umhausen is located just 100 m from our house.
Skiing
The well-known skiing area Sölden can be reached within 20 minutes. Thanks to the glacier and the perfect altitude, snow is guaranteed from October to early May. 33 modern ski-lifts and 146 kilometers of slopes ensure ideal conditions for beginners as well as for advanced skiers. The ski bus stop can be reached within just 3 minutes from our house. The bus to Sölden is departing regularly in the morning. Furthermore, the skiing region Hochoetz is just about 9 km away from us, while the skiing region Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is just about 35 km far. Within just 10 minutes you reach the small family skiing area Niederthai which is not only ideal for families but also for beginners.
Tobogganing
The Tauferberg as well as the Horlachtal toboggan-runs offer great fun for everybody. After a smooth ascent, various mountain huts serve as perfect resting points.
Winter Walking & Snowshoe-Hiking
Numerous prepared winter walking-paths offer fantastic natural impressions in and around Umhausen. In addition you have the possibility to discover the snowy landscape during a leisurely snowshoe-hiking tour.
